The Dell Medical School Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences, in conjunction with Integral Care, seeks a board certified/eligible psychiatrist to join our clinical faculty focused on the treatment of addiction.  We seek a physician who will work with our community partners to develop clinical, educational and research initiatives that revolutionize how people get and stay mentally healthy in Central Texas and beyond. Student loan forgiveness is available for faculty of the Department of Psychiatry through the Texas Mental Health Professionals Loan Repayment Program.

Our department leads psychiatry education for the Dell Medical School and its post-graduate programs train mental health professionals to become 21st-century leaders in the fields of psychiatry and psychology. Clinical services provide informed, evidence-based care for individuals and families in multiple general medical and specialty behavioral health settings with an active and strong presence in community settings.  Importantly, the Department is leading efforts at the University of Texas-Austin to execute cutting-edge basic and clinical research that illuminates the underlying neurobiological causes of psychiatric disorders and identifies novel treatments for psychiatric disorders.

A clinical assignment will occur through our department’s collaboration with Integral Care. A leading Local Mental Health Authority in the State of Texas, Integral Care is Joint Commission accredited and prides itself on continually advancing services, primary care integration, and developing model programs to meet the needs of Travis County residents with severe and persistent mental illness. In addition, Integral Care is designated a Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinic (CCBHC) through SAMHSA.  Integral Care and Dell Medical School also offer a ACGME approved addiction psychiatry fellowship program, sponsored by a 5 years Health Resources & Services Administration (HRSA) grant. Primary responsibilities will include providing world-class medicine and clinical expertise to evaluate and treat a broad spectrum of substance use disorders. It is expected that the successful candidate will serve as a key faculty member in the addiction psychiatry fellowship as well as support the general adult residency program.  Additional partnership with the VA, with opportunities for research activity are also available and would be encouraged.

The successful candidate’s appointment within the department requires regular participation in educational activities with medical students and residents. In addition, the physician will have the opportunity to participate in ongoing development of training programs and collaborations that allow for the pursuit of innovative clinical programming and research initiatives.

Substance Abuse Therapist - Johns Hopkins University

JHU Cornerstone Clinic at Helping Up Mission is seeking a Substance Abuse Therapist responsible for providing individual and group counseling for individuals with a substance use disorder. The therapist is also responsible for coordinating counseling activities according to protocol for clients aged 18 and over.

 

Specific Duties & Responsibilities

  • Conducts intake assessment for clients who are referred for substance use treatment.
  • Completes full psychosocial assessment and treatment plan of care for clients who are culturally diverse.
  • Completes Addiction Severity Index (ASI) assessment to evaluate substance use and related issues.
  • Develops person-centered treatment plan and maintains updated plan according to COMAR regulations, JHU policies and Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF) standards.
  • Adheres to departmental and regulatory documentation standards, and formulates clear descriptions of problems, goals, objectives and interventions that are measurable and time sensitive.
  • Provides direct individual and group counseling to clients with a substance use disorder using multiple treatment modalities including Reinforcement-Based Treatment which is an evidence-based treatment approach that integrates motivational interviewing with structured involvement in work and social activities.
  • Works in a collaborative practice model with a multidisciplinary treatment team for care coordination, transition planning, and ongoing discharge planning.
  • Adheres to timely completion of electronic medical record documentation.
  • Participates in clinical coordination meetings, and clinical supervision as mandated by COMAR, JHU, CARF and the MD Board of Professional Counselors and Therapists.
  • Coordinate clients’ engagement in attending events consistent with treatment goals, including clinic appointments, NA/AA/CA meetings, employment appointments and recreational activities.
  • Initiate and maintain contact with clients’ family members and/or significant other.
  • Coordinate access to community resources including job training, recreation, and drug-free social contacts.
  • Monitor caseload’s urine results and make adjustment to client’s treatment plan accordingly.
  • Enter client activity data.
  • Inform appropriate staff member of supplies and equipment needs that relate to client services.
  • Comply with reporting requirements of state and local agencies, and according to Department of Psychiatry, and CARF.
  • Serve as backup for other research and administrative duties.
  • Will complete other duties as assigned by the Director, Clinical Supervisor, and/or Associate Clinical Director.

 

Special Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

  • Experience providing counseling services to adult population desirable.
  • Knowledge of and ability to gather relevant information to synthesize and summarize information in making judgments regarding client care.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills demonstrated by the ability to work collaboratively and cooperatively within a diverse, interdisciplinary team and partnership; interacting effectively with clients, management, Helping Up Mission personnel and stakeholders.
  • Computer experience required.
  • Flexible hours required, including some evenings and weekends.
  • Excellent organizational skills to work effectively in an environment that requires balancing multiple assignments in a hybrid, past-pace clinical environment.



Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology, Counseling, Social Work or other related field. Must be licensed/certified in specialty field e.g. Social Work, Professional Counselor, Addictions Counselor as required by the state of Maryland and Board of Professional Counselors and Therapist.

Research Assistant - King's College London

The Addictions Department, also known as the National Addiction Centre (NAC), is one of the most productive addictions research groups in Europe. We represent an important area of health-related study as the Addictions Clinical Academic Group (CAG) within King’s Health Partners, and form one of the core areas of the Academic Health Science Centre that brings together university partners King’s College London with the NHS from South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation TrustKing’s College Hospital, and Guy’s and St Thomas’.

The RUN OUT study is investigating the role of cannabis intoxication and cannabis withdrawal in psychosis relapse. Many people with psychotic disorders use cannabis, and its use is associated with adverse outcomes such as symptom exacerbation, relapse and hospitalisation. Recent findings from our research group suggest that cannabis withdrawal syndrome can also act as a trigger for psychosis relapse (Chesney et al. BJPsych 2024) or exacerbate symptoms after admission to hospital. The RUN OUT study will recruit people presenting with acute psychosis and ask them to describe their recent drug use and provide urine, blood and saliva samples.

The Research Assistant position will be full time and will be based at the Addictions department (IOPPN). The successful candidate will work with Dr Edward Chesney & Prof Marta Di Forti and play a crucial role in supporting and contributing to the research project. Their main role is to recruit participants and collect data. This will involve working across King’s Health Partners, at local A&E departments and inpatient wards, and working with research participants who are acutely unwell.

The successful candidate will have the opportunity to attend regular teaching events as well as training courses available at the IoPPN and across KCL to further develop skills and knowledge.

They will work closely with RUN OUT team to ensure effective collaboration and coordination of research activities, strong organizational skills, excellent communication abilities, and the capacity to work both independently and as part of a team.

This is a full time post (35 hours per week), and you will be offered a fixed term contract until 16 February 2027.

Scientific Affairs Officer (Clandestine Drug Manufacture and Profiling) - UNODC

The position is located in the Laboratory and Scientific Services (LSS), Drugs, Laboratory and Scientific Services Branch (DLSSB), Division for Policy Analysis and Public Affairs (DPA), United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) in Vienna, Austria. The incumbent will work under the direct supervision of the Scientific Affairs Officer leading the United Nations Laboratory/LSS and with the overall guidance of the Chief, DLSSB.

Responsibilities:

Within limits of assigned authority, the Scientific Affairs Officer will undertake activities in the context of the on-going Forensic and Scientific work programme of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), designed to maintain and strengthen capabilities of national drug testing and forensic laboratories, and to enhance the capacity of Member States to provide scientific support to drug control and crime prevention activities.

The incumbent will be responsible for the following duties:

  • Develop, organize and deliver activities to strengthen the capacity of drug control, law enforcement and forensic personnel in understanding and addressing the clandestine manufacture of drugs, including the investigation of clandestine laboratories and profiling of manufacturing methods, the dismantling, of clandestine laboratories and the disposal of drugs and chemicals. Coordinate and substantively backstop the development of related scientific training courses and materials.
  • Contribute to primary scientific research projects related to synthetic drug manufacture and profiling.
  • Provide scientific/technical advice to key counterparts as well as support to UNODC programmes and field offices; provide effective and timely technical advice, including ad-hoc advice, support and information in relation to drug testing, forensic analysis, clandestine laboratory investigation and dismantling, drug profiling and issues related to relevant UNODC LSS activities.
  • Advise on scientific standards as they relate to procurement, including setting benchmarks, preparing technical specifications and evaluation criteria.
  • Support the operational supply reduction activities of UNODC Programmes and those of international partners. Provide scientific support to national law enforcement counternarcotic efforts aimed at addressing clandestine manufacture of drugs, including the conduct of needs assessment missions.
  • Promote the use of good laboratory practices. Assist with the establishment of quality assurance procedures, guidelines and policies. Contribute to the development of new approaches for improving laboratory performance.
  • Draft substantive guidelines for procedures in line with findings and identified best practices. Disseminate reports to participating laboratories, relevant Government agencies and other interested partners.
  • Prepare/draft a variety of written outputs, such as background papers, analyses, briefings, presentations, regular and ad-hoc reports, studies, responses to internal/external requests for scientific information particularly on synthetic drugs, including new psychoactive substances. Draft parts, or contribute to the preparation, of progress and assessment reports, appraisals, work plans. Liaise on relevant substantive issues with counterparts in UN and UNODC, both in Vienna and in the field, officials of other organizations and specialized agencies.
  • Collect and analyze data to identify trends or patterns and provides insights through graphs, charts, tables and reports using data visualization methods to enable data-driven planning, decision-making, presentation and reporting.

Naufar is Qatar’s national substance use disorder center for treatment, prevention, professional education and research. Naufar was established in 2017 by Emiri Decree, that recognized that addiction is a health issue. Naufar treats over 1000 patients and their families each year. Our services are evidence-based and culturally- adapted to the GCC. Our facilities include over 120 beds (in-patient treatment, residential rehabilitation) and extensive out-patient treatment and recovery interventions.  

Naufar is an approved training provider for the Universal Treatment Curriculum and as part of its growing professional education activities, we are seeking experienced UTC trainers. Opportunities for short term engagement for the delivery of specific courses (including speaker fees, flights and accommodation), as well as longer term engagement and/or employment, are available.

  •  providing in-depth support using trauma informed practices

Post-Doctoral Associate - Big Data/ Neuroimaging Addiction - University of Minnesota

We are seeking a highly motivated, self-driven Post-doctoral Associate for the Zilverstand lab in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences. Anna Zilverstand, PhD, is an Associate Professor in Psychiatry and the lab Principal Investigator. 

The lab is part of the University of Minnesota Medical Discovery Team on Addiction, offering a multidisciplinary research environment. We directly collaborate with colleagues from the departments of Psychology, Radiology, Neuroscience and Health Informatics, amongst others. Our current research focus is investigating individual differences in the neurobehavioral factors underlying the onset and escalation of substance use. We use neuroimaging, behavioral tasks, surveys and clinical interview data to better understand the complex risk factors driving high levels of use. 

The candidate must have a strong background in computational methods and/or neuroimaging methods. The position will involve management and analysis of data from a NIH-funded project on individual differences in substance use disorders and/or related public data sets. 
We are committed to developing the careers of all lab members. The position, in conjunction with the University of Minnesota career development training programs, will provide opportunities for mentorship in scientific writing and grantsmanship, outreach and communication. 

Job Responsibilities include: 

  • Data management & analysis of multimodal large data sets. (60%)
