RECOVERY IS POSSIBLE: TURNING HOPE INTO ACTION.

The journey to recovery is filled with both rewarding and challenging moments. Some days will feel like victories, while others may test your strength. But remember - urges and setbacks are not signs of failure. They are opportunities to activate your resilience, lean into your motivation, and reaffirm your commitment to change.

Just as an author shapes the narrative of a book, you are the author of your own recovery story. Instead of saying, "I have to do well," shift your mindset to "I want to do well." This choice puts you in control, empowering you to challenge negative thoughts, build refusal skills, and redefine how you see yourself. You are not what labels or stigma may suggest; you are a person navigating substance use disorder, not an “addict” or an “alcoholic.”

Resilience in recovery: The power of choice

Recovery is possible when you embrace the power of choice - breaking unhealthy patterns, strengthening emotional resilience, and reshaping your mindset. Reject negative labels, guilt, and shame, and focus on making intentional decisions that move you forward.

Recognize that progress is not linear. Some days, you may take three steps forward and one step back - that is okay! Recovery is a process, not a destination. Each step, no matter how small, is proof that you are moving in the right direction.

Managing urges: A practical approach

When urges arise, name them and write them down, reminding yourself that they are just thoughts, not commands. Challenge the misconception that urges will only disappear if you give in. The truth is, most urges are temporary - even if they feel overwhelming in the moment. You have the power to let them pass without acting on them.

Protecting your recovery: Awareness and self-care

Watch out for unhelpful emotions, such as anger, hunger, and loneliness, as they can trigger distress and lead to setbacks. These feelings can activate a cycle of unhealthy responses - so be mindful, seek support, and prioritize self-care. Some of the best ways to practice selfcare include deep breathing and mindfulness, light to moderate exercise like Pilates, and making healthy food choices, stress management, rest and relaxation whenever possible.

Rewrite your story today - recovery is possible, and it starts with the choices you make now.
