CAMH is the largest mental health and addiction teaching hospital in Canada as well as one of the world's leading research centres in its field. As part of the Child, Youth, and Emerging Adult Program (CYEAP), the Child Youth and Family Services (CYFS) provides care and treatment to children and youth between the ages of 6 and 24. Position Description

Child, Youth and Family Services has partnered with the Toronto Northwest Justice Centre to provide targeted, multi-sector community supports and programming, which are designed to wrap around youth and break the cycle of offending while addressing the ongoing systemic problem of the overrepresentation of young Black and racialized offenders in the justice system. Justice Centres move justice out of the traditional courtroom and into a community setting by bringing together justice, health, and social services to address the root causes of crime, break the cycle of offending, and improve community safety. Participants are provided with opportunities to improve their social and economic futures focusing on re-connecting with education, developing life skills, improving family relationships, and addressing mental health and substance use concerns – all key protective factors against crime, violence, and recidivism.

The CYFS is seeking a part-time temporary (12-months) Psychologist, who will work largely with Black and racialized Justice Centre participants, between the ages of 12 and 24 years, and their families, who are accessing services through the Justice Centre and have identified mental health and/or substance use support needs. The incumbent will provide consultation to other professionals working with this population through CYEAP and across CAMH, and work collaboratively with the Substance Abuse Program for African Canadian and Caribbean Youth (SAPACCY), and the Youth Justice Assessment Clinic (YJAC). This position will report to the Senior Manager of Child, Youth and Family Services.

The successful candidate will be responsible for providing both clinical psychological assessment and treatment.  Your duties include administering and interpreting psychological and psychoeducational standardized measures, preparing court-ordered psychological assessment reports, as well as providing feedback to staff and to families.  The successful candidate will also supervise and provide support to clinical students and staff in the clinical assessment of clients and the preparation of court reports. About the Role

This is an exciting opportunity for a senior research associate to work on establishing fNIRS research at the IoPPN within the PMC/CAP as well as in other departments. The Researcher will be based in KCL, London and work closely with Prof Rubia but will be assisting several teams at PMC/IoPPN/KCL that will use fNIRS technology.

The aim of the post-holder is to provide his/her expertise in fNIRS imaging acquisition, analysis and interpretation to any teams at PMC and IoPPN/KCL that will use this technology.

The post-holder will be therefore working on different projects across different psychiatric and neurological disorders, as needed. He/she will be teaching and/or assisting researchers in fNIRS imaging acquisition, data analysis and interpretation and will be involved both in grant applications and paper writing. They will have ample experience in fNIRS technology, both in the technical as well as interpretational aspects. They will be experts of fNIRS technology through a PHD and post-doctoral experience and ideally have some experience of multimodal neuroimaging.

The candidate will be open to work on different research areas and in a range of pediatric and adult mental health disorders.

The candidate will aid IOPPN/KCL in establishing fNIRS technology for exciting cutting-edge projects of either unimodal or multimodal neuroimaging and projects that combine fNIRS with neuromodulation.

A highly motivated registered Mental Health nurse is sought to join our Research & Innovation Service at Mersey Care. The postholder will have a specialist knowledge in research and/ or clinical practice enabling the post holder to work independently e.g. either previous experience as a clinical research nurse and/or demonstrable knowledge of Psychosis and Early Intervention services.

As part of the Research & Innovation (R&I) service and working closely with the Research and Development (R&D) team the post holder will contribute to the efficient set up and delivery of research in our Early Intervention Service.

The Department of Psychology at Arizona State University invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor in Clinical Psychology with a research focus on addiction science beginning August 2025. The Collaborative Hub for Emerging Adult Recovery Research (CHEARR) at the UConn Health School of Medicine is recruiting a postdoctoral fellow interested in a career conducting research on recovery support services for emerging adults with substance use disorders. The fellow will work directly under the mentorship of Dr. Kristyn Zajac, with opportunities for external mentorship from researchers at Chestnut Health Systems, East Tennessee State University, and the University of Massachusetts Chan Medical School. The fellow will primarily work on a NIDA-funded Initiative (the Collaborative Hub for Emerging Adult Recovery Research [CHEARR], R24DA057632) focused on recovery supports for emerging adults with opioid use disorder. CHEARR seeks to advance research on the efficacy/effectiveness of recovery support services, particularly continuing care models, for emerging adults who take or who have taken medications for opioid use disorder. We use a community-based participatory approach, which means persons with lived experience with opioid use disorder, and particularly with taking medications for opioid use disorder as part of their recovery process, are an integral part of the research team. As such, recruiting postdoctoral fellowship applicants with lived experiences (i.e., in recovery from substance use and/or personal experience with familial substance use problems) is a high priority for CHEARR.

Beyond CHEARR activities, integration into other projects will be based on the fellow’s interests and training needs. There are currently multiple NIH-funded studies that employ various research designs and methods, including randomized controlled trials, stepped-wedge cluster randomized trials, multimodal assessments of risk factors for substance use treatment dropout, mHealth intervention development and evaluation, working with community boards who partner on research, and data from legal system-related studies, among others. There are also data from multiple NIH-funded randomized clinical trials focused on treatment of substance use problems available for secondary analysis.

About the role

We would like to appoint a Research Assistant to play a key role within a newly NIHR funded project. The research focuses on the development, evaluation and testing of a Virtual Reality-enhanced Cue Exposure Treatment integrated with a wearable device to address craving, prevent relapse and improve treatment outcomes of people with cocaine dependence.

A key challenge in helping people to recover from cocaine addiction (or dependence) is their craving for the drug that can be triggered by ‘cues’ in their environment, such as situations or objects, which remind them of the pleasurable effects of cocaine. This process is known as ‘classical conditioning’ and the aim of this study is to reduce the risk of relapse to cocaine through use of novel technologies to reduce craving.

What we plan to study

Cocaine craving, and relapse to cocaine use are associated with physical changes to the body that can be measured. We are planning to ask individuals to wear a novel watch-like device that can measures physical changes to cues in their everyday environment. With this technology we will be able to identify in real time when they experience an episode of craving or start using cocaine again, to understand what real-life situations or circumstances have triggered these events, and allow us to provide support remotely when we detect they encounter situations that increase their risk of relapse. We will test the ability of technology-enhanced CET to reduce craving and relapse to cocaine use, compared to people receiving usual care

This research is a collaboration involving five UK universities led from the Addictions Department at King’s College London (KCL), the University of Kent, Centre for Addiction and Mental Health at the University of Hull, University of Birmingham, and University of Southampton.

The person appointed will be employed by the Addictions Department at King’s College London (KCL) and will report to Professor Paolo Deluca (Lead applicant) but will be based at the University of Hull and work closely with Professor Tom Phillips. The person appointed will also be working closely with the Project Manger Dr Eileen Brobbin, who is based at King’s College London but will also involve in person meetings between Eileen and the appointed person for training.

The successful candidate will have a good understanding of addictive behaviours, experience in conducting quantitative and qualitative research in clinical settings, and data collection and recruitment. Having conducted research using wearable devices and/or virtual reality will be an asset.

You will also have established research skills relevant to this work. You should be a clear and balanced communicator and committed to equality, diversity and inclusion principles. The successful appointee will be expected to be reliable and efficient and also to have good inter-personal as well as organisational skills.

This is a full-time post and you will be offered a fixed term contract of two years.

OBJECTIVES OF THE PROGRAMME

The objectives of the Programme on Mental Health and Substance Use Disorders (MNS) in EMRO are to guide Member States in the development, adaptation and implementation of evidence-informed policies, plans, legislations and interventions aimed at the promotion of mental health and prevention of mental, neurological and substance use disorders, delivery of services based on best practices and standards of care and promoting recovery, and observance of human rights in an inter and multi-sectoral milieu.

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES

The incumbent will be responsible for the following duties: Assess the current regional situation of substance use and substance use disorders and develop a strategic approach to assist Member States in prevention and treatment for substance use disorders in line with the regional framework to strengthen public health action on the problem of substance use. Enhance the capacities of Member States to develop and implement-evidence informed policies and legislations and strengthen the health systems response to public health problems related to substance use. Provide technical support and advice to Member States in developing national strategies and action plans on reducing health consequences of substance use, scaling up evidence-based interventions for the prevention of substance use disorders, and provision of quality services to people with substance use disorders across the continuum of care. Plan, develop, implement and monitor building capacity activities at country and regional levels to respond to public health problems attributable to substance use and substance use disorders. Support Member States in the development of surveillance and monitoring systems for substance use. Provide technical support and advice to civil society organizations and other entities, as appropriate, on the issues related to reduction of the public health problems associated with substance use. Foster collaboration and partnerships with other EMRO programmes and initiatives in the area of substance use and public health. Prepare and revise technical documents, briefing notes, meeting reports, information products and content of EMRO website related to work under the incumbent's responsibility, as appropriate.

Primary Duties:

• Assists with direct communication with participants regarding the research study. Performs data collection with the use of research-approved surveys, instruments and assessments. Responsibilities may involve reviewing electronic health records for data extraction.
• Assists with recruitment and screening of subjects for eligibility, obtaining consent, and enrolling participants.
• Assist with establishment and maintenance of an electronic database and reports using RedCap under the direction of the principal investigator.
• Assists with assurance of data integrity, verification, and data cleaning. At all stages, the person will be responsible for ensuring compliance with quality control requirements and study relevance.

This will reduce risks and disease burden and contribute to improving the physical, mental and social well-being of the population.

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES

Under the general supervision of the Director of Noncommunicable Diseases and Mental Health(NMH) and the direct supervision of the Unit Chief of Mental Health and Substance Use (NMH/MH), the incumbent is responsible for, but not necessarily limited to, the following duties:

a)   Provide technical, strategic advice and programmatic direction for the implementation of the program of work for mental health and suicide prevention; advise in the preparation and implementation of mental health suicide prevention policies, plans, legislation and services, as well as, the creation and dissemination of effective programs to decrease the burden of mental health disorders and suicide; collaborate in the strengthening of national mental health and suicide prevention programs with emphasis of health services and the inclusion of mental health and suicide prevention as a component of primary health care;

b)   Advise, support and coordinate the sub-regional technical cooperation programs/activities related to the development and implementation of national mental health and suicide prevention programs and services leading to the restructuring of the mental health systems in the English-speaking Caribbean countries and territories;

c)    Contribute to the process of collecting and disseminating updated scientific and evidence-based technical information; advise and support the development and implementation of comprehensive national mental health information systems and suicide surveillance; create reporting tools to monitor mental health and suicide prevention programs;

d)   Advise and participate in the analysis of the regional situation on mental health and suicide prevention; consolidate and disseminate information related to situations and trends in mental health and suicide prevention;

e)   Participate in discussions on mental health with governments, donors and other partners, at national and international levels, including civil society, in particular mental health services users and families;

f)    Support, promote, and strengthen national or international networks directed to improve and implement mental health and suicide prevention plans, programs and projects; participate in the coordination of Collaborating Centers in the field of mental health and suicide prevention;

About the role

This role will deliver high-quality research support within the Singer Lab, related to behavioural neuroscience. Research will look at how early life experiences impact the development of drug- and gambling-related addictions. 

The research is funded by the International Center for Responsible Gaming and is a collaboration with Prof Jeffrey Dalley (University of Cambridge, UK) and Dr Martin Zack (Centre for Addiction and Mental Health, Canada). The Singer laboratory is also part of a vibrant multidisciplinary ‘Sussex Neuroscience’ research community.

We are looking for someone who will provide dedicated research technical support to our team, conducting activities like: 

• developing and performing behavioural experiments related to models of addiction in rats
• organising datasets and performing statistical analyses

• managing laboratory equipment, consumables, and other supplies

About you 

Qualified candidates should ideally have an honours degree in psychology neuroscience (or related life sciences discipline). Excellent communication and organisational skills, the ability to work collaboratively, while complying with both University and Legislative requirements are essential. Previous experience in performing the above-mentioned research and management related activities would be advantageous.

The Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology & Neuroscience (IoPPN) is a School of King's College London and the largest academic community in Europe devoted to the study and prevention of mental illness and brain disease. The IoPPN broadens the remit of the former Institute of Psychiatry to consolidate King's neurosciences, with the addition of the Wolfson Centre for Age-Related Diseases and the MRC Centre for Developmental Neurobiology.

About The Role

We are looking for a postdoctoral researcher to cover maternity leave within Inherit Lab, a group of researchers focussed on the genetically informed study of the intergenerational transmission of mental health problems. https://www.kcl.ac.uk/research/inherit-lab

In Inherit Lab we are interested in understanding mental health in families. We study large family databases to understand the role of genetic and environmental factors in the intergenerational continuity of mental health problems and associated traits. Our approach to research incorporates methodological techniques from the fields of quantitative genetics, causal inference, epidemiology and more. We are seeking a postdoctoral researcher with relevant experience in quantitative/behavioural genetics, epidemiology, statistics, or other quantitative mental health research.

The successful candidate will have three roles: research, leadership of the Family Footsteps public involvement and engagement project, and some teaching responsibilities.

• Research will be conducted under the supervision of Dr Tom McAdams. You will use data from the Norwegian Mother Father and Child Birth Cohort Study (>90k families followed from pregnancy through child development), the Twins Early Development Study (10k twin pairs followed from birth to adulthood). These datasets comprise extended families and include mental health data and DNA on parents and children. Research projects will focus on mental health in families (parent-child effects) and will involve one or more of the following:

o   Gene-environment interaction: Genetically mediated sensitivity to environmental stressors.

o   The impact of treatment (for ADHD in children/depression in parents) on the untreated family members.

o   Selection bias: identifying the biases associated with selective participation/attrition in cohort studies and how we can correct for them.

• Family Footsteps is a public involvement and engagement project focussed on creating dialogue between parents with an interest in mental health and mental health researchers. Consultation workshops have taken place over the last year. Next steps will be creating and running an online survey and engaging in dissemination of our findings in collaboration with charity partners. The successful candidate will lead on this.
